Week Eight

TOPIC 1: BANNED BOOKS AND YOUR BOOKSHELF
I have read “Thirteen Reasons Why”, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, and “The Kite Runner”.  I really enjoyed all these books. To Kill a Mockingbird is one that was a required read for my sophomore english class. I’ve noticed that is a common trend among high schools. The also mentioned Roald Dahl being challenged multiple times in the children's section. I think that limiting access to books and other public materials should be left up to the parents,. Or maybe even banned by age appropriateness. The objections to the books seem to be valid, but banning books does take away freedoms that we are allowed to have as americans. I have read a lot of dystopian books, some authors include Suzanne Collins, Kiera Cass,and Dave Eggers. I think these are all similarly themed books, maybe they would say I am into adventure and challenge, but I am not sure.

TOPIC 2: MAGAZINES
I really don’t read magazines, I guess the most I read are Cosmopolitan and People the most.  I am not really interested in these magazines, but they contain drama that is needed sometimes. These both advertise for beauty supplies and weight loss routines. I don’t think they define me or say anything about me as I don’t read them except maybe once a year. I think that these magazines are sexist at times and that they don’t supply any knowledge, just pointless drama.

Topic One: Newspapers I mostly get my local news from twitter or word of mouth. It is probably not the best way to get news but it is what works for me. Local news is really not that important to me unless it has to do with crime rate. I don’t really check and see if the information is correct unless it’s really important, and I also don’t spread the news around unless it’s correct. I do not subscribe to any local or national news things. On a scale of 1 to 5 on being informed, I am probably between a 3 and 4 depending on the event or situation. I don’t really care to be incredibly informed, just enough to not seem stupid when in conversation. Topic Two: Fake News I think that Trump does not go about his social business and criticisms in the best way. He needs to be more calm and neutral about the issues. Week Nine Blog Forum

WEEK 9 MEDIA BLOG FORUM QUESTIONS  TOPIC 1: MUSIC'S INFLUENCE   The one and probably the only time my music choice has been restricted is probably for pre game warm up songs. High school and college both had pretty strict rules about the type and lyrics of music we were allowed to listen to for the warm up CD. I was never upset about it, and it made sense as children and adults were at the games and they probably wouldn't appreciate a bunch of cuss words. I really like country music and ballad style songs. My favorite artists are probably Eric Church, Josh Garrels, ABBA, Sugarland, and Zac Brown Band.  TOPIC 2: CAMPUS RADIO   I do not think I would listen to a school radio show, personally I dislike the radio and I'm not sure what the radio show would even talk about. Week Five Media Blog

Topic One: Freedom of Speech and Copyright Laws RiP! Uses mashups and real music to teach us about copyright laws. The narrator says, “Whether or not you think this music is original doesn’t matter, the rules of this game don’t depend on who made the song, it depends on who made the copyright. And according to them, using a single note is means for a lawsuit.” Copyright has become an increasingly present thing. Recently on Facebook and Instagram, your videos can be deleted if they contain a song that you don’t have permission to use. That’s right, background music in your car, or a clip of a movie are all means for deletion. I understand the importance of copyright laws and such, but when it comes to things being used in a personal way, I don’t think it needs to be regulated as much.
