TOPIC 1: TWITTER/FACEBOOK/INSTAGRAM AND ADVERTISING/PR

I chose to look up a popular high end clothing store, FreePeople. They mostly post pictures or short videos of their clothing pieces, and keep their Instagram stories updated with todays "top picks". They often post styling videos that show you how you can style or wear certain popular pieces, this is an effective way to get people to see how they can wear the clothing in everyday life. This company also focuses on recipes and often has blog posts containing healthy recipes for the every day person! This company mainly uses social media for their on products and interests. This brand is focused towards the female teen-adult. They sell clothing and their pieces are obviously for females or those wanting a feminine boho style. This is working for them. Their clothing is a specific style and their posts and ads really match that style, appealing to the buyer and those interested in purchasing. If I was the brand manager, I would recommend doing a Fan Favorites section. I love being able to look at how real people styled options and how they worked it into their everyday lives. What they are doing now is working for them, I would just try and make it a little more personalized.

TOPIC 2: PERSUASIVE TECHNIQUES

Ad 1: Nike "What are Girls Made of?" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_iCIISngdI
This ad opens to a young girl on stage singing a song about girls being made of sugar and sweets and then a strong female athlete enters, changing the younger singers song to girls being made of iron and perseverance and strength. It continues to pan from athlete to athlete, all female and all successful and strong. This stood out to me as inspiring because I am a female athlete myself. Its incredible to hear and see athletes and how women are strong. The target audience is females of all ages, more specifically female athletes, but I think it would be inspiring to any women. They use famous people to inspire and they take stereotypes and crush them in this ad for the company. They are taking female empowerment and using it to advertise for not only their company but also for females. This ad was inspiring and made me want to purchase from Nike. It worked.
Ad 2: Pepsi "Kendall Jenner Campaign" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uwvAgDCOdU4
This ad begins with a few individuals doing what they love, it ends with a group of protesters confronting the police. Kendall Jenner walks out with a Pepsi, hands it to a cop, and they cops start to hang out and be nice to the protesters. This ad was meant to promote Pepsi and sell it as a drink to bring people together. But it failed. This ad brought so much backlash, it was very insensitive to the times as this was when lots of police brutality incidences and protests were in the media. This ad was intended for Pepsi drinkers or just to promote Pepsi to everyone. This ad uses hidden-fears (standing out and confrontation) and it shows that it all works out in the end. The idea behind this ad was smart, bring people together. But their follow through failed, the idea of Kendall Jenner handing it to the police man and ending the protest just created a world of hate and backlash. This ad ending up being pulled and discarded.
