Week Nine Blog Forum

WEEK 9 MEDIA BLOG FORUM QUESTIONS  TOPIC 1: MUSIC'S INFLUENCE   The one and probably the only time my music choice has been restricted is probably for pre game warm up songs. High school and college both had pretty strict rules about the type and lyrics of music we were allowed to listen to for the warm up CD. I was never upset about it, and it made sense as children and adults were at the games and they probably wouldn't appreciate a bunch of cuss words. I really like country music and ballad style songs. My favorite artists are probably Eric Church, Josh Garrels, ABBA, Sugarland, and Zac Brown Band.  TOPIC 2: CAMPUS RADIO   I do not think I would listen to a school radio show, personally I dislike the radio and I'm not sure what the radio show would even talk about. I think they would have to do a program that followed the sports teams and then possibly a program that followed the current events (maybe things that are included in the campus wide emails.) I thin

Week Eight

TOPIC 1: BANNED BOOKS AND YOUR BOOKSHELF I have read “Thirteen Reasons Why”, “To Kill a Mockingbird”, and “The Kite Runner”.  I really enjoyed all these books. To Kill a Mockingbird is one that was a required read for my sophomore english class. I’ve noticed that is a common trend among high schools. The also mentioned Roald Dahl being challenged multiple times in the children's section. I think that limiting access to books and other public materials should be left up to the parents,. Or maybe even banned by age appropriateness. The objections to the books seem to be valid, but banning books does take away freedoms that we are allowed to have as americans. I have read a lot of dystopian books, some authors include Suzanne Collins, Kiera Cass, and Dave Eggers. I think these are all similarly themed books, maybe they would say I am into adventure and challenge, but I am not sure. TOPIC 2: MAGAZINES I really don’t read magazines, I guess the most I read are Cosmopolitan and P

Topic #4 -- Media Product Review I have read the book “The Circle” by Dave Eggers. It is an incredible, suspenseful book filled with the obsession of social media. Below is a photo that briefly describes the Circle and its morals. The Circle was recently made into a movie as well, I have yet to see it. This book focus’ on a female main character named Mae Holland. Her best friend Annie gets her a job at the most prestigious company, The Circle. The Circles goal is to connect everything; bank accounts, employers, media accounts, devices and more. This story follows her journey through the company. The author, Dave Eggers, won a Pulitzer Prize in 2002 and earlier founded a magazine company. He also co-wrote the screenplay for Where the Wild Things Are. IDreamBooks states, “ The Circle has a score of 66% based on reviews from 50 critics”. I thought the books was a lot better than a 66% but I really enjoy books that follow plots similar to this one. This book is very unique and foll

Week Six Blog Post

Topic One: Newspapers I mostly get my local news from twitter or word of mouth. It is probably not the best way to get news but it is what works for me. Local news is really not that important to me unless it has to do with crime rate. I don’t really check and see if the information is correct unless it’s really important, and I also don’t spread the news around unless it’s correct. I do not subscribe to any local or national news things. On a scale of 1 to 5 on being informed, I am probably between a 3 and 4 depending on the event or situation. I don’t really care to be incredibly informed, just enough to not seem stupid when in conversation. Topic Two: Fake News I think that Trump does not go about his social business and criticisms in the best way. He needs to be more calm and neutral about the issues. He also should be able to take the criticisms gracefully and with clean pride. I agree that president Trump is harming our free speech and journalism by attacking the news and

Week Five Media Blog

Topic One: Freedom of Speech and Copyright Laws RiP! Uses mashups and real music to teach us about copyright laws. The narrator says, “Whether or not you think this music is original doesn’t matter, the rules of this game don’t depend on who made the song, it depends on who made the copyright. And according to them, using a single note is means for a lawsuit.” Copyright has become an increasingly present thing. Recently on Facebook and Instagram, your videos can be deleted if they contain a song that you don’t have permission to use. That’s right, background music in your car, or a clip of a movie are all means for deletion. I understand the importance of copyright laws and such, but when it comes to things being used in a personal way, I don’t think it needs to be regulated as much. I think it could be cool if singers/songwriters and movie creators shared their work to further explore creativity and mashups.  I think one of my favorite copyright lawsuits is “Ice Ice Baby” v.s. “Und

Week Four: Blog Project "Stranger Things" Review

STRANGER THINGS! I chose to analyze a show I watched in the springtime, Stranger Things. I watched this through Netflix, as it streams from there. This show is a suspenseful comedy, which sounds weird but it’s a great show. I chose to analyze Episode 1 of Season 1. The show is about four friends who finish a night of games and head home, one of them goes missing under mysterious circumstances. When he goes missing, a bald girl shows up to Mikes’ (the main character) house. She is pretty weird and has powers. Millie Bobby Brown plays Eleven, the bald girl with powers, this is the first show she has been on, and YES she really did shave her head for the show and Oh Boy, she rocked it ! Finn Wolfhard plays Mike, the main boy character. Wynona Ryder, a popular actress since her childhood, plays the missing boys mother and does a great job. People LOVE that this show is released so it can be “binge watched”. They love the goofy feel og the actors and the show, and they love the 80’s sett
TOPIC 1: TWITTER/FACEBOOK/INSTAGRAM AND ADVERTISING/PR I chose to look up a popular high end clothing store, FreePeople. They mostly post pictures or short videos of their clothing pieces, and keep their Instagram stories updated with todays "top picks". They often post styling videos that show you how you can style or wear certain popular pieces, this is an effective way to get people to see how they can wear the clothing in everyday life. This company also focuses on recipes and often has blog posts containing healthy recipes for the every day person! This company mainly uses social media for their on products and interests. This brand is focused towards the female teen-adult. They sell clothing and their pieces are obviously for females or those wanting a feminine boho style. This is working for them. Their clothing is a specific style and their posts and ads really match that style, appealing to the buyer and those interested in purchasing. If I was the brand manager,
